Post Vacation Monday's Musings

I'm baaaaaaaaaa-ck!  And despite the fact that we returned on Thursday, we are still moving at a slower and more relaxed pace...  Really...  We just don't want to return to the faster pace that we were moving in preparation FOR the trip...

And we decided that that's okay. 😂 ...we even extend the length of the trip by leaving 12 hours earlier than we had planned so that we missed a messy snowstorm that closed the Interstate over Raton Pass... and we returned a day later than we had planned for the same reason.

I can say that I am officially caught up on laundry.  Woohoo!  The mountain of clothes, bedding and towels from a 15-day trip was pretty... well, mountainous!  In 2020 we had the privilege and advantage of using a customer's vacation home after 7 days on the road. This included the use of their washer and dryer.  It was an ideal time for a "re-set".  But this time we had no reset option... we rolled with it and found creative ways and places to stash our dirty laundry. Of course, a stop at a laundromat could have happened, but we chose to skip that.

I don't really want to focus much on the trip... Yet.  Because, well, I really do.  But don't worry, it was all good and there will be a time to share in the very near future.

For me, today is all about taking a look at the coming week and seeing what is coming on the horizon.  Making lists help me to prepare mentally for the week.

I have several items that will be on the cutting table...

❧ First up?  Prepping the various steps for the next two blocks in the Pieces from the Past BOM demonstration at the quilt shop on Wednesday afternoon.  At least these two are traditionally pieced and don't require any extensive details or effort.

❧ Custom memory quilt for a local HS graduate.  I know that I'll never get the entire quilt finished, but getting the top completed should be a reasonable goal.

The shirts have been cut to size and are ready for fusible backing.

I'll be using a few more pieces of clothing from the customer for the sashing strips... I have yet to determine if I have enough to get the entire quilt done.  Fingers crossed, there is enough.

❧  Quilt a top that was picked up along the way from a customer.  This one is called "Summer Dreamscicle".  Doesn't it look yummy?

Among other items... sifting through and editing pictures from the trip and writing out some stories to share with you.

Here's a look at the very brief time that I spent doing some big-stitch quilting on the Orphan Quilt at the beach...

Do I need to really mention that a photo shoot for a finished quilt didn't happen? 🙈

What have you been up to for the past two weeks?

Leave a comment or send me an email... I'd love to hear from you!

  1. We just got home last night too, so I indeed understand all the unpacking and laundry mounds! I want to kick back and sew, maybe later today. Looking forward to hearing all about your trip.

  2. Welcome home! I can imagine that Raton Pass could be a bit treacherous during a storm!

  3. Vacays are just great but yes, that pace before the trip!? I always think "there has to be an easier way!" LOL. Fifteen days might be a bit much for this homebody but I'm glad you had a good time!

  4. Oh I remember Raton Pass. I would not want to be there during a snowstorm. Glad you had a good trip, and that beach photo is the money shot. Looking forward to your trip posts.
