About Me

Hi!

Thanks for stopping by Melva Loves Scraps - the home of the Pieces From The Past Sew Along, the Santa Fe Trail Sew Along and the Quilters Through The Generations series!

I love scraps.  I love vintage quilts and I love preserving the stories of quilters and the quilts they make.

I am a Homemaker who has a passion for all things quilty.  I especially like a scrappy look.   I love the challenge of working with scraps, remnants and cast-offs to make something beautiful.

This doesn't just apply to quilting, but with life in general!  I enjoy cooking and frequently watch the Food network for new ideas and to learn about food pairing profiles.  Given the fact that Dave & I are empty-nesters, this means that we have plenty of leftovers.  I love accepting the challenge of transforming leftovers into new meals.

I also have a love for scrapbooking and have a serious need to get caught up... I am two years behind!

This blog was originally started in 2011 when I participated in a weekly scrapbooking challenge.  I soon lost interest in the challenge and the blog went to the wayside until I submitted a block for volume 8 of Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks publication in 2013.  Shortly after, I decided that this would be a great way to document and share the stories of my quilts and some of the thoughts and experiences of life as I make them.

I hope that you enjoy your visit and will choose to follow me here on the blog or through Bloglovin'.  I can also be found on facebook and instagram.  I hope that you will join me in my life's journey.

Remember, when life gives you scraps, make a quilt!

Blessings,

Melva

  1. I enjoyed your best of 2018 blog. Hand-sewn Hellos caught my eye. I did a search on your blog to see if you had written one on the subject of these mini quilts, but could not find one. My quilts are getting smaller and smaller due to lack of need, lack of space. Larger quilts are going to charity groups so I wonder if there is more information about the mini quilts that I might read. Thank you

    2. We discovered Trinidad on a cross country trip from WA state to Fl, 5 years ago. Out running a storm with a change in our route we pulled off in Trinidad for gas and fell in love with your town. We spent a few hours tour, sight seeing and enjoying. I have spent hours in genealogy research (Jewish connection) as well about the town when a blogging friend shared her family were pioneers there. I have just followed along (hope it went through) your blog with the awesome new series, Pieces of the Past. While I am not participating I will enjoying the post. (found from Sewing Etc - Kathy)

  3. Melva, do you make Tshirt quilts on commission? There is no one else I'd want to transform those special old t-shirts that are now collecting dust into something beautiful! If so what do you charge? Sincerely, Abby (Bullock) Norris
