Sew & Tell and a To-Do List ~ Whole Cloth Quilt Finish

It's Monday!  And that means that it is time to share the fabulous projects you worked on last week and over the weekend...

I was busy in my studio last week with a whole cloth quilt... Remember my sketch?

And here's the quilt...

I shared daily progress over on Instagram and facebook last week.  I took my time and enjoyed the project for several days.  I probably could have had it completed in just 1-1/2 days, but since I had no other quilting projects in queue, I decided to take a slow and easy pace with the center hearts done one day, the cross-hatch background another and then the leaves & braided hearts.

As I shared on Thursday, I had started the vines/leaves and then realized after being 1/4 done with the border, I had wanted them on the outer border... Oh well!  I was NOT picking out stitches.  I found a Lori Kennedy design for "braided hearts".  It seemed even better!

The border that was supposed to have small pebbles... representing how closely we are all connected.  But the braided hearts are even better... connected with Christ's love and the idea of a braid, a three-strand cord, being stronger than a single strand!  Perfect!

As I quilted it, I thought about the monochromatic grey & white being something that could be appealing for a baby's nursery.  I may or may not know of a young couple that is planning and hoping for their family to grow.  😁  The center of the hearts will need some additional stitching... and when I get word... I will add in a monogram and some stippling.  For now... it will wait patiently... safely tucked away...

Among other items that I completed... the zipper replacement on that vest!  I am happy to say that it was quick and pain free!  Not a single grumble or complaint and no ripping needed!

I also made some pillowcases.  We have been in desperate need of some new sheet sets and cases and have picked up a few here and there.  I have some MainStay brand from wally-world, but really do not like how slick they are.  It is fine for the fitted sheet, but the top sheet refuses to stay on.  Maybe it is just me that has a problem with this... but I have even started shopping for sheets at a high-quality second-hand store.  I have had good success in finding some so I have been able to let go of some of our favorite sheets (a few that were wedding gifts!  That's 37 years in August).  One of the flat sheets was still in good shape, not torn or thread bare thin, so I made us two sets of pillowcases.  And they happen to coordinate with some of the newly acquired sets.  BONUS!  lol...

This week I have "stuff", though not actually quilting, it is quilting related, to get done this week.  Mostly computer and administrative work...  Woohoo...

I need to:

❧ Get the next Pieces in the Garden story written.  The link for the completed Steps to the Altar blocks (#6) is still open and will be through July 20th.

❧ Write the pattern for block #9, as well have a photoshoot for said blocks.

❧ Make a tea cozy using the tutorial from Days Filled with Joy.

❧ Continue recruiting and planning for the National Sewing Month events...

Have you heard about this???

Here are some details about the hop...

Brenda from Songbird Designs and I are planning some fun events to take place throughout National Sewing Month.  We will be hosting a blog hop with the theme “Get on board with sewing”.

A blog hop, if you are not familiar, is like a "show and tell" online.  All you need to do is sew something that ties into the theme and then write about it:  Your “something” could have a tropical or surf feel.  It can be clothing, a quilt, a bag, a toy, or whatever you choose! it might include some tropical themed fabric or novelty print… or not. Readers enjoy hearing about the inspiration of a project, how you made it and they always like to see pictures.

We offer inspiration to each other with projects, tutorials, or patterns.

You have about two months to sew something and join in on the fun.

The basics:

Blog hop days:  September 1-7

Post on your assigned day at 12:00 am Eastern time.

Have a giveaway or don't have a giveaway. It's totally optional!  (We are hopeful to have a prize package to give away via Rafflecopter.)

Visit everyone's blog on the list and leave a sweet and encouraging comment. Make friends!!!!

And anyone can follow along.

  3. Your whole cloth quilt looks fantastic, Melva! I've never tried one, but have some small ice-dyed panels that I want to attempt with a whole cloth type design!

  4. Your whole cloth quilt is magnificent! That sure is a pretty vest you repaired. I still have some sheets and pillowcases I inherited from Mom. I remember when she had them back in the 1970s, and they are as smooth and nice now as they were then. They are percale. Wonder why they can't make sheets as well as they used to.
Thank you for sharing with us at To Do Tuesday!
