Like most quilters, I have marveled at the phenomenon of a scrap bin... I joined the Rainbow Scrap Challenge this year and for this month of January, I have been "in the pink." |

For four weeks I have been making use of pink scraps... I started with some 3" hexagons... moved on to some scrappy "Korner Kabin" blocks and then a baby quilt... and then, my latest finish, another baby quilt.
With all the scraps I have used, one would think that the bin would be looking a little empty... I can assure you that that is not the case! Why in the world is it not empty??? By my estimation, there are 2-1/2 yards (total fabric) used in these baby quilts.
So, you see... it is like doing laundry... (bear with me) Unless you do the laundry completely naked, you will always have more laundry to do... because those clothes you're wearing right now while doing laundry... they will need to washed tomorrow sometime too. ;)
For quilters... unless you use only pieces from the scrap bin for the entire quilt, you will end up with additional scraps. Hahaha! I'll be looking for more creative ways to finish up scrappy quilts that will not create more scraps... or at least keep them to a minimum. ;)

Oh, yes, I have definitely experienced that. It's like you floofed up the scrap bin with air and there's more in there than ever! It's sure fun seeing what you can do with those scraps, though. I love your pink quilts and blocks, Melva!
ReplyDeleteOh yes! I have definitely experienced the ever growing scrap bin even after I used the scrap bin exclusively! I thought about doing the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, but 2025 is the Move Everything Challenge for me. LOL! Next year. Love your pink projects though. So awesome! The pink hexies are a favorite.
ReplyDeleteA busy pink month for sure! Pretty baby quilts, blocks and hexagons! Scraps multiply!!! I'm sure! I have used a lot of 2.5" squares over the last years and that box was almost empty, until recently! Those small pieces are having fun in the nights! LOL Like laundry, scraps never end!

ReplyDeleteWhat pretty quilts you have started! I do marvel at how much fabric and how many potential quilts I used to throw away before I started saving scraps. Being so fond of scrap quilts, I can't bear to throw much away, but even with so many pieces, the totes never seem to diminish. 'Tis a marvelous mystery!

ReplyDeleteYes the scraps just keep multiplying it seems! Which reminds me I need to get into my greens and blue string bags and make more pineapple blocks.
