Some weeks you make plans and are able to execute them without an issue. Other weeks... well, distractions and delays happen. Last week I overestimated the amount time I would have in my studio. I thought that I would have no problem getting my second Sticks & Stones quilt finished.
I did get the top completed... I also have it sandwiched and ready for quilting. I guess, all in all, not bad. So, you're probably thinking... "what distracted you, Melva?"
Baking... baking distracted me! On Tuesday morning, with Thanksgiving approaching (faster than I want to admit) I needed to get some GF bread made to be able to prepare stuffing for the bird. While I was at it, I needed some bread for my daily use. While I experimented with a recipe in the bread machine for the stuffing, I also made some bagels.
LaNay over at Homestead on the Hill (in MN) has some fabulous recipes that have not disappointed me. As I was busy in the kitchen, I thought of (dreamt) of the afternoon in my studio. My Mom had texted me that a neighbor had given her a ham bone that would make good soup. I offered to visit her that afternoon to make her some chunky potato soup. (All the while, thinking to myself that there was still plenty of time to get the quilt finished.)
Wednesday was a full day dedicated to quilting. All of the blocks were pieced and sewn together, ready borders... that was to happen on Thursday. And then Dave said, "We should go to Pueblo to take care of all the errands that need to be done." I touched base with my sewing machine maintenance guy. He had returned to his shop and was back to doing machine repairs after breaking his hip in February, and, yes, I could drop off my Lyric. I let him know that the embroidered letters were a mess and showed him an example. Fingers crossed!
It was a productive day, and we were able to successfully complete all of the tasks on our list, plus a few extra... I had resigned myself to the fact that I would not be showing off a fully finished quilt. And that was okay. I have no deadline of needing it... just a fun quilt to make.
Dave and I have been taking on small tasks each evening in preparation for hosting Thanksgiving. One evening we assembled a rolling shelf insert for our pots and pans cabinet. It has been sitting in the basement for months now... on a different evening, we got it installed. The cabinet doors needed a slight alteration and that will be complete with a few painting touch ups today.
On another evening, we filed away songs/music that had piled up over the year... and another time we made sure that the (very few) video games we have are working properly for the grands' entertainment on Thursday. So that was my week. How was your week?
The randomly selected Sew & Tell feature this week is Brenda's link for the "I'll Be Gnome for Thanksgiving" entry... She joined the party a later in the week so you may have missed it. Be sure to stop by for a visit.
I keep seeing and hearing about how there are fewer shopping days between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year. And as quickly as the weeks seem to be flying by lately, I really need to get my mind in gear for Christmas cards and letters.
We love sharing our family Christmas Newsletter with loved ones. We love receiving cards and letters with updates from others just as much. It is certainly one of the highlights of the year for us. Sadly, sending Christmas cards/letters is becoming a thing of the past for many.
How 'bout you? Do you send your love and updates to others via a Christmas greeting?
If not, what is your reason?
I'd love to hear from you.
Keep Piecing,
Melva
