It seems very plain to me. But I keep saying to myself, "it is for a teenage boy. Boys don't want anything fancy." Am I right?
Once the top was complete, I decided to place an order for some basketball fabric for the backing.
I am using the reverse tie-dyed fabric from last summer as the sashing strips and backing. I'll need a contrasting binding to finish it... watch for a finish soon! It is a small throw, 40" x 60" and will be finished with an all-over grid, on point.
Evenings and late afternoons found me unwinding with hand quilting my silk elephants. All three have been outlined and one complete with quilted details. Dimple quilting was used wherever there are dots. There is just something so very therapeutic about slow stitching. ❤️
In addition to all of this, I have actually taken the first step in compiling an email list of participants of my on-line sew along events. I will soon be adding to the list with quilt guilds/clubs and fabric shops that I think might be interested in having me offer a class or program. Would you like to have me come to your area? Overall, I've had a very productive week few days since the grand-daughters left on Tuesday.

ReplyDeleteI love all the projects - the basket ball quilt is just perfect. Understated is right for a teenage boy. The TOPS quilt is fun, too, and I hope it raises a lot of funds. The elephants, of course, are beautiful. No linkups for me this week, but next week I should have something!
ReplyDeleteHi Melva! Happy New Year to you, my friend. I love your Denver Nuggets quilt for your grandson. I don't consider it plain at all, and here's why. You are letting the feature blocks actually shine and not overpowering them with supporting blocks that need to fade to the background. There's a good reason to use solid fabrics in coordinating colors and your nine-patch blocks do their job well. I think he will adore this plus he'll love that it from you. You took the time to pick a subject that is meaningful for him, and that's priceless in my book. I'll same the same thing about your t-shirt quilt . . . but there's no need to repeat myself. HAHA! ReplyDeleteI think the plain quilt will be just fine - guys don't always require fancy. I love to hand stitch in the evenings, and those silk ellies are so cute!
ReplyDeleteI really do like the background and sashing of the second Tshirt Quilt for TOPS. It makes the blocks look like they are floating. Thanks for featuring my post this week. Yes, they would make great bookmarks. Don't know if you saw my Bible bookmark (Index) for marking the page numbers of the Bible books. I'm having a hard time getting back to quilting work. I need to put a QOV top together for the group. I've had it for months. I keep having to make..rather wanting to make birthday cards.People don't stop having birthdays? I'm also thinking of other little gifts made from scraps. So, I'm sharing another scrap project today. Thanks for hosting.

ReplyDeleteI have yet to make a tshirt quilt. Both of my boys have so many great tees from their sports years (both great athletes) but neither are interested in a quilt of them. Maybe someday...
