Let's Go Camping :: Things You Do

Pat Sloan Lets Go Camping block 5 banner

Last fall we had planned a trip to Yellow Stone.  This was a trip that we have had on our "bucket list" of places to go for years.  Like 20 some years... we just never made it.  Other things took precedence... things like family weddings, Girl Scout trips and camps... you know, life in general.

We had our camp reservations and as the time drew closer we started watching the fire danger and the weather reports.

Fire danger and air quality were a real concern since there were fires in the area.  And then the weather turned cool with moisture moving in.  It was only going to be one or two days with about 20% chance of showers.  No biggie... we can handle it.  And then they were suddenly talking about every day with showers.  We purchased rain gear and we were still not daunted.

The camper was basically loaded and they predicted snow.  WHAT???  We packed in our winter gear, but not thrilled about it.  **sigh**

It came down to the day before we were to leave and my husband suggested a sudden change in plans.  You can read the entire story over at Our Mountain Town Vacation.

In short, we visited some mountain towns and enjoyed some long bike rides.  The ride that stands out to me is when we rode (ok, pushed) our bikes up the original Wolf Creek Pass near Pagosa Springs, CO... well, as far as we could go because there was a downed tree laying across the trail.

We enjoyed the view for a bit and then began our descent down the trail.

Woohoo!

Pat Sloans' Things You Do block reminded me of the downed tree... because though the setting of these blocks is designed to be on point, mine will be square - meaning that my block is going to look like a fallen tree...

I can't wait for more fun this year!  The camper is ready to go and so am I.

What do you do when you go camping?
Do you know of some great trails to ride?

Leave a comment and let me know.  I love to hear from my readers.

Blessings,

  1. You can always camp our way. We have Teddy Roosevelt National Park in ND. But that's only about 120 miles from us, so you can always stop in for a visit. We've taken the family to Itasca (head of the Mississippi) in MN. Tu-Na Helper and I packed our camping gear and flew to MA for leaf peeping a few years ago and camped at Bar Harbor ME in Acadia National Park. Beautiful in the fall.

    1. Itasca has great bike trails. Don't want to bring your bikes? They have bike rentals, too. Some bikes have electric assist. Makes the hills so much easier.

  3. Spent time in Yellowstone when I was about 11....yikes....60 years ago. Wow time flies. My parents were outdoorsy. Me, now I'm just a inside homebody....no more bugs for me.

  4. We camp mostly in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Though we live in NE Wyoming, SD is our "home state" and we think that part of the US is awesome. We have camped in Steamboat Springs CO too. We don't ride bicycles, we used to have a motorcycle, now we just walk some and read, and enjoy the quiet. I do hand stitching too. Try to come back to Yellowstone this year or maybe venture all the way to Glacier National Park in Montana! Wonderful!

  5. We have camped in many places across the US. We enjoy the National Parks and their beauty. I always enjoy seeing the animals and the campfire. Time with family is really important to me.

  6. I agree Judy, family time is really important. We are doing a "camping" trip this summer with our oldest daughter and her family... we will be in a camper and they will be in a cabin. :) It should be great fun!
