Tuesday Tips & To-Do

If you missed it, I kicked off the weekend with a wonderful finish of the Pieces From the Past ~ Revisited.  I included the adjusted cutting sizes for the Our Country block there, making it a 12" finished block to pair with the 12" Dragon Fly block.

Two things that I have learned in my years of quilting were helpful in the completion of this quilt.

#1 - Use some narrow masking tape to audition a quilt design.  You can see in the picture here how I had two similar, yet different, options...

#2 - When you are short of fabric for a one color/double fold binding, you can use a 2-color or flange binding technique... but sew it on in the opposite way that you would to show the flange (narrow strip of contrasting color)...

This was a trick that I used last year on the Pieces of the Santa Fe Trail quilt.

With May's OMG complete, I turned my attention back to our Camping Journal quilt... On Saturday, I tackled the 4-1/2" x 9" FPP guitar.  I am quite pleased with the end result! Some of those pieces were SO tiny!  I had to fiddle with the neck of the guitar, and it still isn't quite perfect, but it will just have to stay that way. 🤷

I finished a tall pine tree on Sunday when two different attempts to go for a bike ride were spoiled by flat tires... so we settled ourselves down in front of Netflix watching movies and I stitched.

With the completion of these two blocks, it leaves just one more block...  One FPP block with more teeny-tiny little pieces to make two music notes... but I don't think that last block will see any time under the needle this week.

❧ I am in desperate need of making a big shopping trip to prep freezer meals.

❧ I received a box full of t-shirts for another memory quilt on Friday... just as I was photographing the Pieces Revisited quilt.  But I somehow found myself with NO fusible interfacing.  😧  An order has been placed and now I wait..  I can get the graphics cut out so that when the interfacing arrives, I am ready to roll with that.

The lack of interfacing helps with opening up time for the meal prep.  Watch for one or two more No Guilt::Go Quilt recipes...

❧  I'll be drafting another story for the Pieces in the Garden sew along and doing a photo shoot of block #5.  It will include a fun story from Forrest, the man of so few words, and what he and Tressie would do on dates.  Surprisingly, Tressie didn't share much about how they met or what they did, other than go on picnics with friends.

❧ I need to return to the writing of patterns and making of the blocks
(block #6 and a bonus block) for the Garden sew along.  Have you been working on your Hours blocksCharming Chipom has completed her blocks and is linked up for her chance to win the prize drawing of a tea assortment from Cornerstone Tea Company.

She made all of her blocks in the row the same...

Have you checked out Stephanie's shop on-line?  With each pattern/story a special discount code is offered.  This month's code - PROM - can get you a 20% discount.  Go check her out!

I think my to-do list is plenty long and will keep me busy and out of trouble for the week and it's time for me to run... but before you go, let me know...

Have you ever used one of the tips I shared?
What tip/s would you share?

Keep Piecing!

  3. That is a great tip for binding! Where do you have to travel to do big shopping? Your guitar is so cute! Those little hours blocks look great together. I haven't started on mine yet - but I have the pattern printed out, does that count?
Thank you for sharing with To Do Tuesday!

  6. Interesting. this is the second blog today that takes me directly to an older post from this year. Is the heat getting to our computers and messing things up?
