Red Letter Day

It's a red-letter day!  You may ask, "Why?"

Because I finished the custom order for a Colorado flag table runner and bowl cozies! And that red letter is a C.

The table runner (20" x 40") perfect for a table, cedar chest or buffet.  I used prairie points to make the mountains and I appliqued Fishers Peak in the yellow sun - Fishers Peak is a prominent landmark and the newest addition to the Colorado State Parks system.

The bowl cozies are a bit fancier than the normal... Piecing in that C took a little bit of quilt math and extra time, but the result was more than I could have hoped for.   The bowl cozy pattern came from Happy Hour Stitches.

That's all I have for now... but before you go,

Tell me about one of your favorite state or national parks.
Why is it your favorite?

Maybe we'll add it to our list.

Keep Piecing,

Melva

  1. I love Isle Royale in my home state of Michigan. Waay up north and accessible only by boat. It's all about hiking, boating, moose, and other wildlife. For about 10 years we went up every summer with friends and lived on their boat. I have such great memories of this!

  2. My husband and I are trying to visit the National Parks and last summer, one of the parks we made it to was Acadia National Park in Maine. It is my new favorite! We love visiting, camping, hiking and sightseeing.
Your table runner and bowl cozies with Colorado's flag caught my eye. My daughter lives in Denver and we have vacationed many times there. Last year we visited Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP in Colorado!

  3. Assateague is a National Seashore, and it holds wild pony herds that descend from Spanish horses. You can find it in the MD part of the Chesapeake Bay, close to the VA line.

  4. I'm Canadian, and have visited very few National Parks in the US. I've driven through the redwoods, and visited the Lewis and Clark Caverns, and Yellowstone...but...I don't know much about any of the others. That said, Canad has some spectacular national parks (Banff, Glacier, Algonquin) -- all of which I've visited (Algonquin is in Ontario; the others are in Alberta and British Columbia). And there's Drumheller, AB (with it's hoodoo rock formations and the Royal Tyrell Museum (dinosaurs). And more. So...I don't really have a favourite, but if you travel up north to Canada, you might want to check out one (or all!) of these -- and more...

  5. Oh how cool, great commission project! Fabulous how you worked the State symbol into the bowl cozies. I've only been to two national parks and of them Acadia in Maine is my favorite so far. We've been twice and while we are on a quest to get to them all, I want to go back to Acadia at least one more time so we can check out the Schoodic pennisula. Hoping one day to get an RV to explore the western parks.

  6. What a fun commission. I can see the table setting now. Another Arcadia National Park fan here. It is the closest one to me and we have vacationed there a handful of times over the years, most recently this past October. I love it for the variety - heights, ocean and woods.

  9. Hi Melva, those are really great table runner and bowl cozies. I can imagine that the cozies took some planning. Congrats and thanks for linking up to Free Motion Mavericks.

  10. Your table runner and bowl cozies are fantastic! My favourite (Canadian 😊) National Parks are Gros Morne and Bay of Fundy, both for all the hiking trails.
