My mom taught me how to knit when I was 5, but I couldn’t control the tension so gave it up until I learned how to knit Norwegian style when I was an IFYE delegate!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7757169784448574694.post-80926586512183468122022-07-23T05:32:07.423-06:002022-07-23T05:32:07.423-06:00Nice stories, although I'm not sure whose fini...Nice stories, although I'm not sure whose finish you are sharing for TGIFF.Lisa in Port Hopehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07442503238247816596noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7757169784448574694.post-24601240984502201492022-07-22T09:37:23.891-06:002022-07-22T09:37:23.891-06:00"...harsh words, possibly spoken about the br..."...harsh words, possibly spoken about the broken dishes, could chip away love." --- what a beautiful and poetic sentiment! Seeing the Red & White quilt reminded me that I have an RSC quilt design that I am making from an oldie but goodie book called "Fun With Nine Patch and Snowball Quilts". I didn't have any quilters in my family that I know of --- my first teacher was the "Simply Quilts" TV show and books, magazines and the internet have done the rest! However, I do have a collection of embroidered handkerchiefs made by my grandmother. I remember her primarily doing clothing sewing and crochet when I was young. When a friend held an "Oral History" night a few years ago we used many of the handkerchiefs to help decorate the event room. I hope to put them together in a quilt one day.Vivianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17845920248231910491noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7757169784448574694.post-85744041903946643832022-07-21T11:31:15.972-06:002022-07-21T11:31:15.972-06:00my granny did a lot of hand piecing, and taught me...my granny did a lot of hand piecing, and taught me to use her mother's treadle machine when I was about 6. My mother made and identical one for herself, and I watched her do a step on her dress, and then I did the same on mine. From there I began sewing my own skirts, blouses, and dresses. I made my first quilt when I was expecting our first child. My local library had a selection of quilting books, and I chose a pattern from one of them. While I machine pieced the crib quilt, I chose to hand quilt it. I was hooked.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
